Dabbling in routines? Can’t stick to one regimen because it’s too hard to commit? Too many options and too much advice from friends and the media? It should be an evolution, and you must start with fundamentals and grow it from there. “Don’t give up on retinoids.”

We all know that retinoids are powerhouse active ingredients and fight the first signs of aging, acne and hyperpigmentation. But it’s easy to stop using them because they can cause irritation and redness. The key is using a very thin layer, using a moisturizer with them, and starting very slowly. Two nights per week is a good place to start.

“Simplify your skincare routine.”

The most effective skincare routine is a simple one with well-thought-out active ingredients. All too often I see people in the clinic who are over-masking and over-peeling in the pursuit of glowing skin. Too many active ingredients, such as hydroxy acids and retinol, at different steps in your routine, can disrupt the skin barrier, worsen redness and increase sensitivities.
