It may not feel like winter just yet, but better be prepared than not! Make some basic changes to your skin routine to keep your skin in good shape during cold weather and to avoid some unwanted skin problems before winter causes them!
❄ STEP 1: CHANGE TO A GENTLE/HYDRATING CLEANSER
This is not the time to be scrubbing or using a harsh cleanser. For face, try Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, CeraVe hydrating cream-to-foam cleanser, or La Roche Posay gentle cleanser for dry skin. For body, try Cetaphil soothing wash, Aveeno fragrance-free wash, or Eucerin eczema body wash. Use gentle baby face cloths if you want to use more than your hands. Make sure not to use hot water, only lukewarm, so you don’t parch the skin from the heat.
❄ STEP 2: CHANGE FROM LOTION TO CREAM
Moisturizing is one of the most important steps in your winter routine. So you need to make it count! Changing from using a “lotion” to a “cream” provides your skin with more moisture when it needs it. This goes for your face AND body moisturizer. Our favorites for face include our Triple Lipid Restore or La Roche Posay Double Repair, and for body, try CeraVe or Cetaphil cream or La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm.
❄ STEP 3: ADD A SERUM
Adding a serum this time of year is a great idea. A collagen serum can serve two purposes- encouraging collagen along with hydration. We stop making collagen as we age, so adding this to our routine (along with some chemical peels or Fraxel laser!) is a smart move. Try our HA Intensifier.
❄ STEP 4: HELP THOSE HEELS
Immediately after your bath or shower, apply an ointment or balm and cover with socks. Try Aveeno eczema balm, Aquaphor healing ointment or Vaseline. Repeat again before bed.
❄ STEP 5: SLEEP WITH A HUMIDIFIER NEAR YOUR HEAD
Try placing a humidifier on your nightstand or on a chair near you to reap the benefits. Try “Hey Dewy” or any basic product.
❄ BONUS POINTS: ADD AN OIL FOR YOUR NAILS AND CUTICLES AT BEDTIME
Your nails dry out too! Both with winter and with age. Jojoba oil or almond oil are great for massaging into your nails and cuticles to help your nails be more resilient and smoother.
