What is Fraxel skin resurfacing?
Fraxel is a non-invasive skin resurfacing treatment that is cleared by the FDA to improve the tone, texture and radiance of aging skin.* This treatment is for patients who want to look younger without dramatic changes, cosmetic surgery or extended downtime. There are no needles or scalpels involved, and with a single treatment, you can restore youth to your skin.
Fraxel is cleared by the FDA to treat:
- Wrinkles around the eyes
- Acne scars
- Surgical scars
- Sun spots and pigmented lesions
- Melasma
- Actinic keratoses
How does Fraxel skin resurfacing work?
The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 system targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into the skin to speed up your body’s remodeling of collagen. Collagen is what gives our skin its firmness and flexibility, and with increased collagen remodeling, your skin will appear much younger.*
Fraxel only treats a fraction of the tissue at a time, allowing the surrounding tissue to remain intact. This allows for very rapid healing and the downtime is minimal. With these treatments, we can resurface your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out!*
What can I expect during the treatments?
Fraxel is an in-office treatment and can be done from our location in Woburn, MA. When you come in for the procedure, we will cleanse your skin first. Then, about 60 minutes before your treatment, a topical anesthetic ointment will be applied to the treatment area. The Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 procedure takes 20-25 minutes for a full face.
What can I expect from my results?
Individual results depend on your particular condition and how you care for your skin. Once your skin is treated, continue to protect it with broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher). DermPhysicians of New England will give you specific advice based on your individual needs.
How many treatments will I need?
On average, an effective treatment regimen is 3-5 sessions spaced about 2-4 weeks apart. Depending on your condition and schedule, your treatment sessions may be spaced further apart. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually seen after 2-3 months.* This time frame and treatment structure allows for healing and the production of new collagen to replace the damaged tissue.
Are the treatments painful?
Most patients describe feeling a sensation of heat during their treatment. To minimize your discomfort, we will apply a topical anesthesia before the procedure and use cold air on the treatment area during the procedure. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually fades within 1-3 hours.
